Straight from University, I started my recruitment career in the UK focusing on Tech contracting, graduating up through the academy to become a consultant. After a successful 1.5 years, I felt the urge to try a new market and was offered Dubai or Hong Kong through Randstad. I chose Hong Kong -  a less mature market with great career and earning potential.

I joined as a consultant to build up their IT temp desk. Coming from a temp-driven market to a perm-driven market was not without it's challenges; however within 2 years, I was promoted to team leader and had grown the team to 4 consultants plus built a sustainable contracting business. I am now overseeing the Technologies business which has been a tremendous shift from performing as an independent biller to now managing a team of 15 full-time consultants from diverse backgrounds. 

 

Randstad has given me a lot of opportunities over the last 4 years, helping shape and develop my career. Joining a company that was growing ultimately meant there has been an abundance of opportunity. Randstad has provided tailored training programs for team leaders and managers. Each program consists of 3 phases where they bring the leaders together from different countries and fly them to different locations to train.

One module of the team leader training was based in Malaysia and it was unlike no other. We were sent two hours into the Malaysian jungle for three days of training. Staying in a jungle retreat, we were set an apprentice style task focused on how to improve a specific issue/gap in the business with only 24 hours to develop the business plan and present it back to the Country Managers and the Global Client Solutions Director. As a team, we worked on the project deep into the night and after presentations concluded, we were rewarded with an iPad and a night stay in the Shangri-La hotel before our return home.
